Go with a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet basic switch. The switch will also be available from online sources like Amazon. If you decide to add the Ethernet switch, any big/box electronics superstore will have a selection of Ethernet switches to choose from. With 1), if the Time Capsule has a problem, then the other Ethernet devices connected to the switch will continue to operate normally. If you go with 2).and.the Time Capsule has a problem.then so too will any device(s) that are connected to the Time Capsule. Then you can use the 3 other Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule for other Ethernet devices.Īlthough either method will work, 1) would be the best option if possible. That will leave 4 free available Ethernet ports for other devices to connect.Ģ) Connect the Ethernet cable from the TP-Link router to the Time Capsule "O" (bottom) port. So, 1 port on the switch will be used to connect the switch to the TP-Link router. You have two options for additional Ethernet ports:ġ) Ideally, add a 5-port Ethernet switch to the Ethernet port on the TP-Link router. I will certainly do some research but wanted to get some opinions of the people on this forum too. I have heard good things about Plume but that's about it. Being out of the market for some time, can anyone make some apple-friendly recommendations for replacing both the wifi and the wireless backup? I do like that feature and would rather not tether HDs to all of our macs. The Time Capsule is old and the HD is likely starting to go bad (have had to recreate backups 2-3x over the past 2 months and am getting constant verification errors), so I think an upgrade of the whole system is warranted. But that leads me to part 2 of my question. My next step was to turn on the Verizon wifi and test that. ![]() I connected hard-wired to the router and am getting around 850/700, so I know the speed upgrade has been done. I know the Time Capsule is capable of serving more than this. Still getting around 100/100 to all tested wifi devices. Everyone was happy that we upgraded but when I run the speed test on the wifi network, nothing has changed. I finally upgraded our FiOS connection to 1GB. We are usually getting connection speeds in the house of around 100mbps on wifi, which I felt was inline with the service we were paying for.įast forward to last night. I bypassed the Fios Quantum Gateway G1100 wifi and attached a AirPort Time Capsule 802.11ac to serve the wifi. I have had a Verizon FiOS connection for the past 5 years of 150/150. I could really understand what was being said above around using the TC as wifi and connecting Mesh network to it.AirPort Time Capsule 802.11ac limited to 100mbps w/Gigabit Fiber connection Hello all, please keep it as simple and stepwise as possible. At the moment I have to do a TC hard-reset every time I want to link to it - arrrrrgh! I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas on what to try that would be great. I'm an absolute computer beginner but I suspect its a network setting that I need to change in the TC setup or perhaps on the Deco system, although the Deco APP doesn't allow any real modifications to control. (It still behaves the same way if a disconnect the hard drive too). Infuriating as I have a large hard drive plugged in to the TC which has lots of files on I need to use around the house. I can plug my Gen 5 TC into one of the M5's and set it up absolutely fine, I set it up in Bridge mode, enter the required password etc and it works absolutely fine, until I come to turn the computer off.when it reboots, although the TC light is green, and airport utility shows the TC as Green, my computer won't connect to the TC - it asks for the password, I enter the correct password but it then rejects and refuses to connect to TC. The Deco system is in "Access point" mode, (which I presume is the same as bridge mode?) only options are router mode or access point - which seems to suggest it is being driven by my Vodafone router. Using a Deco M5 mesh network running on a Vodafone modem. ![]()
